PHOENIX, AZ – United Right-of-Way (URW) is pleased to announce that the company has been awarded the Best of the Best Safety Award by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP). The award recognizes landscaping companies who have maintained the NALP’s Overall Safety Achievement Award – Gold Level status for three consecutive years.
“We are proud that our company has been recognized for the high standards of safety we instill in our team members,” Chris Testa, President of URW, shared. “This is truly a team effort, as our safety procedures touch every employee in some way.”
URW is one of just twelve companies nationally to earn the award this year. The company was also honored with the award the last time it was eligible in 2016. Criteria to achieve the safety award span the entire calendar year and include no vehicle accidents, no injuries or illnesses, and no days away from work.
Testa attributes their success in this area to complete and intensive training of every employee, well-documented procedures and notation of potential hazards, and a strong culture of safety-first. This means everyone is involved and looking out for one another and the company, proactively checking equipment to ensure everything is working properly and to identify potential problems. He stresses the importance of a sound safety plan that is regularly reviewed and updated.
“A safety plan that does not mention pesticides, but you are using them, is not a complete safety plan,” Testa says. “The same applies to changes in equipment and work areas. Look at your equipment. Is it old and run down, would you trust putting your family in a truck with bad tires? Keep up with maintenance and challenge your staff to respect the equipment and to look out for each other.”
